Help Us Help Antelope Valley Seniors in Need This Holiday Season

Posted by Thompson Von Tungeln | Oct 28, 2022 | 0 Comments

Many of our clients have had the opportunity to speak with our receptionist, Maggie Covarrubias, over the years.  Something that you may not know about Maggie is that her daughter, Savannah is Little Miss Antelope Valley 2022.  She is finishing up the end of her reign in the next two months, having participated in a number of community service activities throughout the year to give back to the community.Anchor

Helping an Underserved Community
Savannah has decided as her final community service project of the year to put together her own event, which would allow her to give back to an underserved community of people in the Antelope Valley—low-income seniors who are in need.

Both Maggie and Maggie's husband lost their grandmothers this past year.  Savannah was close to her great-grandmothers and saw them struggle to get basic supplies for themselves.  She recognized that this may be an issue for other seniors.  With so many organizations and community service projects targeted for children, Savannah decided to put together a special project to deliver seniors holiday baskets filled as tribute to her late great-grandmothers.

The goal is to collect completed kits (or care packages) and/or the items to create kits, or $25 gift cards to grocery stores or stores like Walmart or Target so that Savannah can assemble 100 holiday baskets to seniors in need in the Antelope Valley.

What is in a Senior Holiday Basket?
These kits would include full-sized bottles and packages of the following:

  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Body Wash (or bars of soap)
  • Toothpaste
  • Toothbrush
  • Deodorant
  • Face or Hand Lotion
  • Toilet Paper
  • Lip Balm (Chapstick)
  • Hand Sanitizer or Wipes
  • Laundry Detergent
  • Laundry Softener

Items can either be gender-neutral (unscented) or gender-specific, but the goal is to create 100 total kits for seniors in need.

How You Can Help
There are several ways that you can help.

  1. Contribute Towards Kits. Savannah has created an Amazon Wish List to make it easy for people to contribute towards various items to be added to kits. CLICK HERE to view Savannah’s Senior Holiday Basket Wish List

  2. Assemble Complete Kits.  In an effort to avoid having excess donations of any one particular item, you can assemble complete kits for each senior by making sure to put together kits with all of the items above.

  3. Donate $25 Gift Cards.  If you would prefer to donate $25 gift cards to either Target, Walmart or the grocery store, these can be used to purchase kit items and/or given directly to the seniors in their kits.

The law firm of Thompson Von Tungeln will be serving as a drop off location and collection center for completed kits for seniors or gift cards.  You can drop off your kits or gift cards at the Lancaster office at 963 W Ave J.
